Falconry Bird Control

Cannon Pest Control’s falconry bird control or bird of prey solutions are non-lethal deterrent programmes that deal with nuisance birds in a natural, effective and humane way.

Using live birds of prey to control nuisance bird populations works by altering the behaviour patterns of the pest birds. This can take a number of site visits to achieve but once the behaviour of the target birds has been altered it can be controlled through a programme of routine visits with the birds of prey.

The birds of prey used by Cannon Pest Control are specially trained to deter nuisance birds from a range of sites including schools, hospital, shopping centres, train stations, airports, warehouses and factories government buildings and large public spaces.

We will provide an initial assessment and an idea of options available to you over the phone and will even conduct a free of charge survey in order to survey the scope of the nuisance bird problem. We will then develop a falconry bird control strategy to suit your requirements.

Falconry bird control programs should be considered long term as they require constant flying of the bird of prey in the area over a series of months. Once the target birds have moved on and the birds of prey are known in the area flying will be less frequent.

The type of bird flown and how often depends entirely on the nuisance birds and the location of the affected area.  It could be that the building in question suffers a problem only during the breeding season and that the Falconry bird control is required from April to July whilst the birds are nesting. For more specialised areas such as landfill sites, where the Environment Agency enforces bird control levels, we may suggest flying the birds of prey in the area daily.

At Cannon Pest Control we also take extra care to ensure that we use the right species of bird for the right job, trying to mirror their natural flight patterns and behaviours. Our Harris Hawks, for example, are used for indoor work where space is limited. For outdoor work we would use one of our falcon species such as the Peregrine as these birds are used to hunting over open land.

All of the birds used by Cannon Pest Control are bred and trained specifically to do this type of work. They are used purposely for nuisance bird control and are used to flying in urban and industrial environments. The welfare of our birds is extremely important and we ensure that all birds are exercised daily and fed on a nutritionally balanced diet. All our handlers undergo falconry training and receive extensive training in all aspects of falconry bird control.
